Let me tell you something about senior boys — they almost always show up a little nervous. And that is completely okay, because by the end of the session, they are almost always killing it in front of the camera. This Lovejoy High School senior was no exception. He came in a little unsure, and left with a gallery full of images that his family is going to treasure forever. I love watching that transformation happen.
A rustic, nature vibe done right
When this senior told me he wanted something rustic and outdoorsy, Oak Point Nature Preserve in Plano was an easy call. It is honestly one of the most underrated locations in the DFW area for senior portraits. Wide open meadows, wooded trails, natural creek beds, and beautiful Texas light — it checks every box for a nature-inspired session. There is nothing overly manicured or posed about it, and that relaxed, organic feeling translated perfectly into his photos.
For a senior who wanted something genuine and low-key rather than polished and urban, this location was a perfect fit. The earthy tones, open skies, and natural textures gave the gallery a warm, timeless quality that I absolutely love.
From nervous to natural
I always tell parents of senior boys — do not worry if your son seems hesitant about his session. It is completely normal. Most guys are not exactly jumping at the chance to stand in front of a camera for an hour. But here is what I have learned after photographing so many of them: once they relax and realize we are just going to have a good time, something shifts. This senior was a perfect example of that. A little quiet at first, but as we moved through the preserve and got into a groove, he loosened up completely. The images from the second half of the session especially show just how far he came — relaxed, confident, and completely himself.

He came prepared with his Texas A&M shirt for his college announcement shots, and I have to say — I have photographed quite a few future Aggies lately, and it never gets old.
