The H Family - Allen TX Family Photographer
Fall sessions might not immediately bring to mind lake days and sandy toes, but this November family session at Grapevine Lake was the sweetest reminder that magic can happen in unexpected places — and unexpected weather.
All week, the forecast threatened rain. In fact, I almost reached out to reschedule. But something in me said, “Let’s wait and see.” I’m so glad we did because instead of gray skies, we were gifted with one of the most beautiful sunsets of the season. The entire lake lit up with soft golden light that made every candid moment feel cinematic.
This family chose Grapevine Lake because it’s one of my favorite spots to advertise. Hanging out by the water makes you feel like you are somewhere else other than Texas, and it always brings out fun moments with your family. Their kids immediately kicked off their shoes and ran toward the water. They collected rocks, splashed at the shoreline, and begged to show off their “big throws.” Mom and Dad joined in — laughing, splashing, and stealing little moments of connection in between.
These are my favorite types of sessions: the ones where I get to document families simply being themselves. We captured so many candid frames of the kids racing across the shore, snuggling in close, and exploring the lakeside with that curiosity only kids have. And even though the air wasn’t summer-warm, the energy felt like it.
By the time the sun started sinking behind the water, everything had that warm golden glow that photographers dream about. The rain clouds that tried to scare us away actually softened the sky beautifully, and the colors of the horizon were unreal.
I always say that the best family photos come from real interactions over perfect posing, and this session was the perfect example of that.
