Logan wanted Lake Grapevine for his spring senior session, and honestly, it was a great call. The area around the lake gives you so much to work with — open fields, interesting roads, natural textures, and that wide, easy North Texas light that makes spring portraits feel effortless. We had a solid plan and a great location. What we didn't plan on was the weather having entirely different ideas.
Starting Strong — Fields and the Open Road
We hit the ground running and made the most of the early part of the session. The field gave us that clean, open backdrop that works beautifully for senior guys — room to move, natural light, and nothing competing with the subject. From there we moved to the road, which added a completely different feel. There's an ease and a cool confidence to road shots that just fits, and Logan brought both.
The light was doing exactly what we needed it to do, and the session was rolling. We were feeling good heading toward the water.
Then the Sky Had Other Plans
Just as we were making our way toward Lake Grapevine, the storm rolled in — and it did not ease in gradually. One minute the sky was open, and the next it went dark, the wind picked up fast, and it became very clear very quickly that we were on borrowed time. We grabbed our shots at the water as fast as we could before we had to make the call to wrap it up.
It was one of those moments where you're shooting with one eye on the camera and one eye on the sky, moving with purpose and hoping the light holds just a little longer. Logan was a total sport about it — no complaints, no hesitation, just locked in and ready for whatever I needed from him.
You Would Never Know from the Photos
And that's the thing — you look at these images and you see a relaxed, confident senior with a great backdrop and beautiful light. There is zero indication that we were racing a storm to get the shots. That's a credit to Logan for staying focused and bringing his best even when the conditions were working against us, and it's a reminder that some of the most interesting sessions are the ones that don't go exactly according to plan.
The photos are genuinely stunning, and Lake Grapevine delivered even under pressure.
