Ennis TX Senior Session - Mary Hickman Photography
Every once in a while, a session comes along that genuinely fills you up — and this one did exactly that. This sweet senior is part of the Mary Hickman Photography senior model team, and she just so happens to be from Ennis, TX, which also happens to be my hometown. Getting to head back to Ennis for a session after it had been a while since I'd shot there? I was beyond excited. And then we shot on Easter Day, in bluebonnets, with a sunset that I am still thinking about. Yeah — this one was something else.
Welcome to Ennis, TX
If you haven't spent time in Ennis, it is a genuinely beautiful small town with so much more to offer as a session backdrop than people realize. I grew up there, so shooting in Ennis feels personal to me in a way that no other location quite does. There's a familiarity and a fondness that comes through when you're somewhere that shaped you, and I loved getting to see it through the lens again.
Downtown Ennis — Hidden Gem Backdrops
We started our session in downtown Ennis, and it delivered. Downtown areas in small Texas towns have this incredible, authentic character that you can't manufacture — textures, colors, architecture, and layers that create backdrops you'd never find at a manicured park or popular photo spot. We found some really cool spots that made for striking, editorial-feeling portraits before the more open, natural locations of the evening ahead.
Back on Her Turf — The Football Stadium
From downtown, we made our way to the football stadium — and for this senior, that stop meant everything. She cheered all throughout high school, and stepping back onto that field one last time in her senior year was a full-circle moment. We shot on the field and in the stands, and the pride and joy she had being there came through in every frame. These aren't just pretty portraits — they're a record of who she was and what she gave to her school during these four years. That matters.
Bluebonnet Park at Golden Hour — On Easter Day
We saved the best for last. We drove out to Bluebonnet Park as the afternoon light started to soften, and what we found there genuinely took my breath away. The field was absolutely packed with bluebonnets — full, lush, and glowing in the late day light. On Easter Sunday, surrounded by that kind of beauty, it was hard not to feel like the whole evening had been perfectly arranged.
She brought her Bible along to incorporate into the session, and it added the most meaningful personal touch. Faith is part of who she is, and having it represented in her portraits made them feel whole in a way that went beyond just beautiful photos. Some of my favorite frames of the entire session came from those quiet moments with her Bible in that field.
And then the sunset showed up. I photograph a lot of sunsets — it comes with the territory — but this one genuinely ranks among the most stunning I have seen all year. The sky turned into layers of warm color over those bluebonnets, and we just kept shooting because neither of us wanted it to end.
Senior Model Team — What It Means to Work with These Girls
Being on the Mary Hickman Photography senior model team means we get to build something together — a creative partnership where her personality, her story, and the locations she chooses all come together into a session that is uniquely hers. This senior brought her whole self to Easter evening in Ennis, and the results speak for themselves.
If your senior is interested in learning more about the model team or booking their own session, I would love to hear from you.
