Sometimes the best photo sessions are the ones that don’t go according to plan. When I scheduled our latest senior team shoot at the boat docks at White Rock Lake, I had one vision in mind: soft golden light reflecting off the water and a dreamy sunset backdrop to match the glow of these incredible seniors.
But Texas weather had other plans.
On the drive down, dark clouds started to roll in—and before we knew it, that perfect sunset sky I was hoping for was completely covered. Instead of golden light, we got bold, moody tones and dramatic clouds that added their own kind of magic.
It wasn’t what I expected, but honestly? It turned out even better. The storm gave us this cinematic vibe that felt powerful and unique—something you can’t plan for but always hope to catch when you’re behind the camera.
Our senior team handled it like total pros, laughing through the wind and light rain and making the best of every shot. Their energy was contagious, and by the end, we had a gallery full of personality, confidence, and those “wow” moments that only happen when you embrace what nature gives you.
This shoot was a good reminder that sometimes imperfect conditions lead to the most memorable photos.
